The Rimowa

Rimowa’s iconic metal suitcase design has its roots in the company’s long-standing history of craftsmanship and innovation. Founded in Cologne, Germany, in 1898 by Paul Morszeck, Rimowa initially produced wooden trunks. In 1937, Richard Morszeck, Paul’s son, introduced the first aluminum suitcase, inspired by the lightweight yet durable material used in aircraft construction. This marked a turning point, as the brand became synonymous with sleek, robust travel cases.

In 1950, Rimowa introduced its signature grooved design, inspired by the ribbed fuselage of airplanes, making the suitcases instantly recognizable. The design combined durability with timeless aesthetics, cementing Rimowa as a leader in luxury luggage. Over the decades, the aluminum suitcase evolved with modern features like polycarbonate blends and advanced wheel systems while maintaining its iconic look, solidifying Rimowa’s status as a symbol of premium travel.
